Employers Association, Inc. traces its roots to a time of serious labor turmoil in the Twin Cities. In the 1930s, there were more than 100 labor strikes, some of them very violent.

On December 17, 1936, a group of Minneapolis business and industrial leaders established an organization to help employers resolve labor-management disputes peacefully and to harmonize employer-employee relations. The name of this new organization was Associated Industries of Minneapolis, later to become Employers Association of Greater Minneapolis.

At about the same time, an employer group in St. Paul established the St. Paul Committee on Industrial Relations for the purpose of improving labor-management relations. This organization changed its name to the St. Paul Employers Association, Inc.

These Twin Cities' associations merged on April 1, 1985 to form Employers Association, Inc. (EA).

After World War II, in addition to its labor relations and collective bargaining services, EA began providing its member organizations with vital wage and benefits information. Over the years, EA has continued to develop services to meet employer needs. With the expansion of services, especially in the management training and human resources areas, the number of EA employer members has doubled in the last twenty years. Today Employers Association is a regional member organization, one of the largest employer organizations of its kind in the country.

In 1998, Employers Association, Inc. moved into a new headquarters facility located in Plymouth, Minnesota. It also maintains offices in St. Paul and Des Moines, IA.
