The Basics of Human Resources

Dramatic changes in what are defined as human resource functions and in the requirements for HR professionals are occurring on an ongoing basis. This three-day, 24-hour course provides an overview of HR management and the key functions and activities that comprise it.

The course focuses on technical aspects as well as the operational/administrative issues HR managers face today. It also examines the strategic role HR managers play in organizations, and discusses how HR professionals can work most effectively with line managers and supervisors.

An Overview of Key HR Functions Including:

Employment laws and regulations

Strategic HR planning

Job analysis

Staffing

Compensation: Pay and benefits

Performance management systems

Training and development

Employee relations

Union relations and collective bargaining

Health, safety and security

HR recordkeeping

Note: All participants receive a textbook and a manual of information, exercises, and handouts.

Who should attend

Professionals who:

have recently assumed a human resource position

are entry-level human resource managers

are human resource specialists and would like to broaden their understanding of other HR functions

are line managers who oversee HR activities

This program is approved for 21 general recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).
