Effective Business Writing and Communication

Employers today have one common complaint -- that employees lack basic writing and communication skills.  Is it time to improve your business writing skills and up your odds for promotion?  Sign up today for this one day workshop taught in a balanced combination of lecture, reading, writing exercises and discussion.

Program content

  • The Five C's of great business writing, plus when to write and when not to write
  • Creative ways to jump start assignments
  • Importance of (and how to achieve) a positive tone
  • Email Etiquette:  do's and don'ts
  • Savvy salutations and gender inclusive terms
  • Short spelling and grammar refresher
  • To avoid the 10 most frequently misused words
  • 12 new editing and proofreading tips
  • Specific ways to carry classroom insights into the workplace and much more!
At the conclusion of class, participants will know how to compose reader focused messages that get desired results, identify their own professional writing pitfalls, and receive a helpful list of writing references to stay on track.  Everyone gets a copy of the book, Writing for Business Results and is asked to bring a one page sample of their business writing for critique by the instructor.  Mary Rose Remington, M.S. Education, is an established freelance writer, columnist and published author who has twenty plus years experience as a career counselor, manager, customized trainer and business consultant.

NOTE:  The instructor-led portion of this program will end about 3 p.m. From 3 to 4:30, participants will be offered an optional--yet strongly encouraged--consultation to review their writing samples.
